ABOUT STEVE BRADSHAW
Steve Bradshaw is a recovering politician. He was elected to two terms on the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners. He was first elected in 2016 winning the primary runoff election with 75% of the vote and the general election with 89% of the vote. In 2020 he won re-election running unopposed. DeKalb is the fourth largest county in the State of Georgia.
For two years he served a Presiding Officer or Chairman of the Board, after being unanimously elected twice by his colleagues. Over the course of his time in public office he also served as Chairman of the Finance, Audit and Budget Committee, the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee and the County Operations Committee.
Steve has been a lifelong Democrat with a long voting record that bears this out. He was elected to public office as a Democratic and believes in the basic principles of that political party. Even so, he believes that hyper-partisanship is ripping the fabric that binds us together as Americans. And he embraces the quote attributed to President John F. Kennedy who once said, “sometimes party loyalty asks too much.”
Prior to entering politics Steve spent over 15 years in the private sector in various operations management and business development positions. While in business he successfully closed and managed several multi-million-dollar accounts.
Steve started his professional life as a US Army Officer, formally trained as a tank commander. While on active duty we served in various line and staff roles in both domestic and international assignments including deployment to the Middle East during the First Persian Gulf War. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Two Army Commendation Medals and the Airborne Qualification. Steve served on active duty for seven years leaving the military at the rank of captain.
After earning a master’s degree in public administration from Georgia State University he was afforded the opportunity to teach as an adjunct professor/part time instructor in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies where he taught both graduate and undergraduate students. He also holds a BA from Armstrong State College (now Georgia Southern University).
As an undergraduate student Steve worked in the restaurant and bar business in his hometown of Savannah, GA. During those formative years he developed the patience, customer service and diplomatic skills that serve him to this day. Although he freely admits that he is still working on the patience thing.
In 2001 Steve was appointed to serve on the State Board of Examiners for Certification of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Analyst by Democratic Governor Roy Barnes. In 2025 Steve appointed to serve on the State Workforce Development Board by Republican Governor Brian Kemp. If afforded the opportunity Steve is proud to serve the great State of Georgia.
Steve is the author of the newsletter, A Common Sense Agenda and the 2010 book Dear Diane: Letters From the First Gulf War. He has been married to his wife Diane for 38 years. He enjoys reading, mostly history and biographies. He also enjoys watching professional football. His favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Steve has also been a struggling golfer for over 30 years.
